History and Reputation

United States-based Homegrown Cannabis Co. might be new on the scene, but it is a legit place to buy seeds. However, this seed bank has its work cut out for it in establishing credibility and streamlining its processes. This is primarily due to the incorporation of two previously mismanaged seed banks Homegrown Cannabis Co. has acquired and is now operating under the Homegrown brand. One of these was the now-defunct Single Seed Centre, and the other was GYO Seedbank, which is still in operation under the GYO brand in a few countries. Both of these seed banks were rife with customer complaints about everything from low-quality genetics to excessive shipping problems.

So far, customer satisfaction ratings for Homegrown Cannabis Co. are much higher than either of these predecessors. Homegrown’s own website is full of 5-star reviews, though it’s worth noting that several buyers who had posted less-than-flattering reviews noticed their postings were later removed. However, reviews on public growers’ forums also skew positive, and negative reviews appear to be further and farther between, as this company has begun to come into its own.

Seed Selection and Quality

Homegrown Cannabis Co. boasts a sizable inventory of nearly 500 strains. Unlike GYO, which resold seeds from multiple other breeders, Homegrown only carries seeds produced in-house.

So far, this strategy has served Homegrown Cannabis Co. well, with most of its buyers reporting healthy crops and enjoyable weed. However, it looks like this seed bank still has some kinks to iron out in its genetics, as multiple buyers have reported receiving small, white, immature seeds that never sprouted. Additionally, several buyers have had the free bonus seeds they’d received from Homegrown fail to germinate.

Seed Quality

Every new seed bank will go through some growing pains as they get settled in the industry. When developing in-house genetics, the process will undoubtedly take even longer. While there are negative reviews concerning the quality of the HCC’s seed selection, this period seems to have passed. Currently, the consensus online is that Homegrown Cannabis Co has a reputable selection of strains that will flourish into health plants under the right growing conditions.

Seed Categories

While the inventory isn’t as extensive as other seed banks, navigating over 500 strains can still be overwhelming. Thankfully, Homegrown Cannabis Co’s inventory is broken down into the following categories:

  • Flowering Type
  • Variety
  • Cultivation
  • Cultivars with Character (Seeds selected by the HCC’s experts)
  • Strains (strain families)

Each category is further divided into subcategories. We especially like shopping by cultivation, giving you the choice of beginner, indoor, outdoor, and high yielding stains.

In-House Fertilizer and Nutrients

Homegrown Cannabis Co is clearly growing into a comprehensive resource where you can find everything needed to cultivate premium cannabis. The most recent addition is the Homegrown Plant Powerups consisting of marijuana fertilizer and cannabis nutrient packs. If you buy complete nutrient kits, you’ll even get a pack of seeds!

Customer Service

As customer service was a huge problem area for GYO and Single Seed Centre alike, Homegrown Cannabis Co. is putting in the effort to provide its buyer with a much-improved customer care experience. Homegrown’s customer service department encourages customers to contact them via live chat, email, or telephone, promising to return all phone calls and correspondence within 24-48 hours. The option to order seeds over the telephone is offered, as well.

Germination Guarantee

Homegrown Cannabis Co. backs its seeds with a germination guarantee, though theirs is structured a little differently from most other seed banks’ guarantee policies. If any seeds fail to sprout within 90 days after delivery, buyers may contact Homegrown to make a claim for reimbursement. If between 10-50% of the seeds failed to germinate, points of equal value to the faulty seeds will be applied to their Stash loyalty account (these points may be used for discounts on future purchases). If over 50% of the seeds fail to germinate, replacement seeds will be shipped.

This germination guarantee ensures that seeds will sprout, but provides no guarantee of the viability of the plants beyond the taproot phase. The implementation of this program appears to have gotten off to a bumpy start, however, with multiple buyers who attempted to utilize it coming away dissatisfied with reimbursement in the form of loyalty points, the quality of the replacement seeds, or with not receiving any reimbursement at all.

Delivery Guarantee and Return Policy

Homegrown Cannabis Co. guarantees delivery, advising buyers to contact customer service if their seeds fail to arrive within 25 business days. Orders that have gone missing will be reshipped at no additional charge. Homegrown Cannabis Co. does not offer returns or refunds on unused seeds. However, if you change your mind about your order within one hour after placing it, you are allowed to cancel it.

Website Design and Navigation

Homegrowncannabisco.com is clean, attractive, easy to navigate, and filled with useful information. Browsing Homegrown’s expansive inventory is made easier with filtering options including THC level, Indica/Sativa, ailments, effects, beginner-friendly strains, best sellers, and lowest prices. Every product page features pictures of what mature buds can be expected to look like, alongside a detailed description of the strain and its characteristics.

Homegrowncannabisco.com features a useful germination guide with pictures and video, as well as a blog filled with articles about cannabis facts and culture, as well as ample growing information for all levels of experience. Notable cannabis breeder and cultivator Kyle Kushman has lent his expertise to a special blog section, “Grow Your Own with Kyle Kushman,” featuring video and text resources to help new growers get started.

Price and Payment Options

Homegrown Cannabis Co’s per-seed prices tend to run on the higher end, though they vary considerably depending on the number of seeds ordered. The lowest available prices are listed in the product previews (typically between $7- $8 per seed), but upon clicking through to each strain, it becomes apparent that these prices are only accurate for 25-count orders. The price per seed gets higher the smaller-sized pack you buy, with most 4-packs (the smallest quantity available) costing around $20 per seed.

Large Selection of Payment Options

Homegrown Cannabis Co. accepts nearly any payment method you can think of, including ACH/e-check, credit cards, Zelle, GPay, CashApp, Bitcoin, bank transfer, counter deposit, or payment by mail in the form of cash, check, or money order. For those buyers who have never used Bitcoin before, Homegrowncannabisco.com includes a handy guide to getting started with it.

Here and there, buyers have experienced issues with payment processing. In a few cases, bank accounts were charged, though Homegrown claimed the transactions were unpaid, creating delays in shipping. Customers who pay by ACH/e-check are also subjected to an additional convenience fee of 5%, which is not mentioned at the point of sale.

Shipping Range and Stealth Methods

Homegrown Cannabis Co. ships out orders daily from its hub in the United States. This seed bank’s customers typically do get their seeds quickly – usually within 10-14 days. While this is great for growers who live in the US, the lack of international shipping options is a disadvantage for would-be buyers located in other parts of the world. Tracked shipping is offered for $9.99, and Homegrowncannabisco.com has a tracking feature for buyers to easily check on their order at any time. Orders over $99 qualify for free shipping.

Discreet Shipping

As has become the industry standard for reputable seed banks, orders from Homegrown Cannabis Co. are always shipped in plain packaging with no mention of the contents, company name, or any other indication of relation to cannabis.

Discounts and Loyalty Programs

Homegrown Cannabis Co. has several buying options for growers looking to save a little extra on their order. The “Cheap Weed Seeds” page on Homegrowncannabisco.com showcases all of the company’s lowest-priced seeds. Homegrown has been known to run an additional buy-one-get-one-free promotion on these strains. Other current sales and promotions can be found on Homegrowncannabisco.com’s homepage.

Another way to save on per-seed prices is by ordering mix packs (pack quantities range from 9 to 45). Homegrown has dozens of mix pack choices, each including 3 different strains. Signing up for Homegrown’s email newsletter connects buyers with notices of current sales, promotions, giveaways, and Homegrown Cannabis Co. coupon codes. Emails from this seed bank are plentiful, so newsletter subscribers can expect to see a lot of Homegrown Cannabis Co. in their inboxes.

Homegrown Stash Loyalty Program

Homegrown Cannabis Co. has launched a loyalty program, “Homegrown Stash,” to reward repeat buyers. For every dollar Stash members spend with Homegrown Cannabis Co, they are rewarded one point. Points can be cashed in for discounts on future purchases. Brand-new club members receive 4 bonus White Widow auto seeds with their first order. Additionally, Stash members who spend between $200 and $399 over a 12 month period are given priority access to sales, and those who spend $400 or more also get access to Homegrown’s private growers’ forum.

For those buyers who had previously shopped with GYO, Homegrown Stash is taking the place of GYO’s Eucalyptus Points loyalty program. GYO customers with unused Eucalyptus Points are invited to contact Homegrown Cannabis Co. customer service to request a transfer of their unused Eucalyptus Points over to Stash.

Homegrown Hub

American-based cannabis seed banks have the luxury of honesty when it comes to adding value beyond selling seeds. Companies like Homegrown Cannabis can freely communicate about growing marijuana rather than selling seeds as ‘collector’s items.’ This is a significant advantage because what is separating some seedbanks is the additional value offered through their digital platforms.

Homegrown Cannabis Co’s Experts

One of the most significant moves HCC has made is acquiring celebrity cannabis personalities and offering their expertise under the Homegrown brand name. The ‘Cultivars with Character’ section of the website features the strain picks from the following cannabis celebrities:

  • Kyle Kushman
  • Steve DeAngelo
  • Nikki and Swami
  • The Dank Dutchess
  • Ricky Williams
  • Eric Brandstand
  • Victoria Rouland
  • Ed Rosenthal

The advice from the experienced growers from HCC’s experts provides endless content for their blog and YouTube Channel.

Grow Diaries and Forum

The community can directly engage with other growers through HCC’s grow diary and online forum. Here you’ll find cultivation advice and progress reports. The community is extremely active with multiple posts and replies per day.

YouTube and Potcast

While the Homegrown Cannabis blog is an incredible resource, we’re more impressed with the reach they’ve been able to achieve with their video and audio content. The HCC YouTube page currently has 124,000 subscribers with new videos uploaded weekly. Information available on the ‘Potcast’ is also a nice addition to the network, you can check them out on Spotify where they release a new episode about twice a month.

Conclusion, Homegrown Cannabis Co. Review, 2024

Homegrown Cannabis Co. has had its work cut out fixing the messes left behind by the companies it incorporated and aiming to rise above their tarnished reputations. So far, Homegrown has done an excellent job. There were undoubtedly some issues initially, but they have shown to be in it for the long haul. Homegrown continues to improve its customer service and genetics while building an impressive cannabis community in the process.

If HCC keeps this up, they will undoubtedly emerge from the shadows of GYO and Single Seed Centre to become one of the top seed banks.

Worthless company

Used them 3x. Each time with some type of issue. From them shipping crushed seeds as freebies. To not getting my full order. Now with new added fees. The prices are on the high end without added fees. As for white seeds, yes you will see this too. Sad that this company of growers is no different. Yes they do remove reviews too. Posted two 2 star reviews and they remove it and didn’t reward the 25 stash points.

I’ve grown over 30 strains of cannabis successfully over last few years with whopper crops. And 98% of my seeds have come from Homegrown. I’ve not had any issues with germination and the plants performed exactly as described and expected of the strain. They have a lot of innovative genetics: such as a blueberry x lemon haze cross we have growing now called Blueberry Gusto. Last grow we had a wonderful end product with a blueberry x Jack Herer cross, Jack Herer, Durban Poison, and their free seed Deelite. Not once have I questioned whether I was getting what I… Read more »
